Further update,

1) The liver enzymes are rising but holding steady - fingers crossed I can complete the treatment. I went to the TB clinic yesterday and they were happy to give me a further months treatment.
2) Still nothing from the neurosurgeon - I'm convinced the referral has got lost.
3) I've already had a letter with date to see the colorectal surgeon - bit quicker than number 2!!!
4) wrist joints following steroid injections is really good, not pain free but very manageable.

Sadly though the rest of my joints plus my neck are really painful and stiff, just sitting here and typing is difficult. No idea what anyone else can do for that.
I had an IM steroid injection about three weeks ago without much effect, then two weeks ago I had both wrists injected. Having stopped all my immunosuppressives
because of the TB treatment I guessed this might happen but I didn't expect it to be quite so quick and quite so severe. As you might remember I am going away at the weekend
and that's a shame because it will affect it somewhat, at least in the mornings.Sad

Hi Gogs

Your progress is still pretty mixed isn't it? But progress is the right word at least.

I really hope you can enjoy your weekend to a degree despite the difficulties.

Us RAers really need a replacement for saying 'fingers crossed' don't we? I'll go with 'best wishes' instead.

Angie.

Depending on exactly what is going on with your neck, you wrists might be related to the neck. The nerve branches for the right and left arms / hands exit from between the discs in your neck. If they are prolapsed you will get arm / wrist / finger pain. So that appointment with the neuro-surgeon really is a big look forward to.

I hope it comes soon for you.

As Angie says, you are making progress in small steps and that is great even if is does feel like two forwards, one back.

Keep hanging on in there.........

Hi everyone,

I decided to phone again my consultants secretary to see if this letter to the neurosurgeon is materialising.
She gave me the number of the 'waiting list coordinator' such titles!!!! Well guess what -
they only received the letter (or so they say) on 3rd April - a whole month lost, I am so angry and frustrated I don't know what to do with it.
They don't have to try and cope each day. I have had this neck pain since October, it's been given all sorts of diagnoses until there was a
coordinated idea that it was RA. In the mean time I have spent nearly £400 on treatment that didn't help. I guess now that my letter is only
two weeks only I will have to wait yet another two months to be seenSad

This whole business of letters drives me nuts. Has the NHS not heard of email? By the time they are dictated, typed, checked and sent a whole month or more can pass, when an email could have been sent in a matter of minutes. Hello NHS welcome to the 21st century

Thanks Suzanne - I don't like to hear you're running on empty, that's not a good place to be hope, you feel stronger soon.
Thanks so much for responding and supporting me. The NHS is such a big brute, organised by chimps with very little knowledge of
what it's like to be a 'patient'. Really appropriate name don't you think, I must look up the root of that name - then shoot the b.. that decided its
we who should be called itThumbDown

Paul - what a genius you are, it really makes you wonder why in the 21st century the NHS are not using an electronic system.Could it be that by
not getting it signed by the consultant then it doesn't have to be acted upon -I believe there is some legislation that (at present until we're in the 21st century) insists
ALL referrals are signed by the consultant making the request.

Hi Julie - Thanks for your support - you're right, I think there are a few of us feeling ten degrees under at present. I'm going away over Easter to Amsterdam, but
I was in such pain and stiffness this morning I was desperate (hence the phone call re the letter) and only hope this monster behaves itself for me while I am trying
to enjoy a few days away. My lovely neighbour is going to look after my husband again for me.

Further bit of news - social services have finally contacted me after nearly two months.
We've made an appointment to meet on Wednesday afternoon - hope my flight from Amsterdam is not delayed as I'm returning to
England that morningThumpUp

Hopefully they might put together a respite care package for my husband and give me a little short break through the week.

Hi everyone,

Well the lady from S.S. came this afternoon - and she was lovely. She suggested that perhaps my husband should have some day care to give me some
rest for a few hours. She is going to check out a few places and get back to me. I'm unsure of what this might cost as one of the booklets she left discussed
costs and how they assess them. She hadn't mentioned any of this to me so I'm hoping it's not too expensive or that will kibosh those plans.

Loved Amsterdan - great hotel and the sights were fantastic. We went to the Rijks Museum, Van Gogh museum, the Horticultural gardens, some other large park the name
I don't remember. We walked miles and miles throughout the canal streets of the city. We had a wonderful time, except for my poor painful neck the rest of me really behaved itself.
We found some great eating places, talked with many lovely people, laughed until we cried, were completely shattered everyday. Had lunch most days from a plastic bag, sitting by
one of the canals. The sun shone most of the time except when we were in the horticultural gardens (you would know that!!) when it poured down!!!ThumbDown

The only disappointment for me personally was that I had forgotten to recharge the battery in my new camera (remember I went on a camera course on the Saturday) after having
used it all day o the Saturday. The result of my stupidity was that after only one day my camera was flat and I was unable to take any more photo'sSad. A miserable lesson I
wont forget in a hurry.

I did also manage to leave my mobile phone charger behind me, so, I have no phone until my replacement charger arrives next week sometimeBlushing.

I had a letter the day before going away to say my bloods are a problem again and I had to make an appointment for repeats (I already have them done twice weekly!), and also to
arrange to see my doctor. Fortunately I have an appointment to see him on Friday so he can take the bloods and tell me whats going on again.

Hope you are all doing OK (have commented on your toes Ailsa), please update me as to how you all are, and thanks for your continued interest.

Love to all

Hi Gogs
Glad you had a good meeting with the Social Services lady. Hope she comes up with some possible and affordable suggestions for you and soon would be good.
SO pleased you had such a good time in Amsterdam and that at least some of your joints behaved themselves. The break and the memories will have done you the power of good.
The disappointment over the camera just means you will have to go and do it all over again!!
Fingers etc crossed for the doc and bloods tomorrow.
